The NFED Research Program is committed to foster, advance, and support basic and applied research that will achieve improvements, treatments, preventions and ultimately cures for the diverse forms of the ectodermal dysplasias and their manifestations.
When the NFED was founded in 1981, very little was known about the ectodermal dysplasias and their treatment. In 1985, the Foundation expanded its mission to include funding seed grants for ectodermal dysplasias research and providing researchers with access to clients.
Since then, the NFED has funded more than a million dollars in research at 40 centers around the world. Today, we better understand the conditions, have identified effective treatments and genes for 10 ectodermal dysplasia syndromes and continue to fund research toward a cure.
